Trader EUA


This role represents a significant opportunity to establish and lead Nvalue's EUA trading activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing trading strategies, building relationships with key market participants, and establishing the necessary infrastructure for a successful EUA trading operation. This requires a deep understanding of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), exceptional analytical skills, a proactive approach, and the vision to build a successful trading desk.

Key responsibilities:

  • Desk Setup & Strategy: Develop and implement the overall strategy for Nvalue's EUA trading desk, including defining trading parameters, risk limits, and market focus. This includes setting up necessary accounts, trading infrastructure, and data feeds.
  • Market Analysis & Trading: Execute trades in the EUA spot, futures, and options markets, with a focus on maximizing profitability while effectively managing risk. Conduct thorough market analysis, fundamental research, technical indicators, and quantitative models to inform trading decisions.
  • Relationship Building: Establish and maintain strong relationships with key market participants, including brokers, utilities, industrial emitters, financial institutions, and regulatory bodies. This will be critical for sourcing deals and gaining market intelligence.
  • Portfolio Management: Manage and optimize Nvalue's EUA portfolio, ensuring strict adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements and internal risk management policies.
  • Collaboration & Team Building: Collaborate closely with other traders, analysts, researchers, and risk management personnel within Nvalue to find and exploit synergies. As the desk grows, the trader will be involved in building and mentoring a team.
  • Risk Management: Implement and adhere to robust risk management procedures, ensuring compliance with Nvalue's risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
  • Market Monitoring: Continuously monitor market conditions, news flow, regulatory developments, and geopolitical events that may impact the EUA market.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Provide regular updates and analysis on EUA market activity, portfolio performance, and trading strategies.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay at the forefront of the latest developments in the EU ETS, other linked carbon markets, and broader environmental regulations globally.
  • Keeping up with innovation: ensuring cutting edge trading strategies and tools

Desired skills and

expertise:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related quantitative field.
  • 3 years of demonstrable experience as an EUA trader, with a proven track record of consistent profitability and effective risk management. Experience in a "start-up" or desk-building environment is highly desirable.
  • In-depth understanding of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), its rules, and its interaction with other energy and commodity markets.
  • Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze complex datasets and develop robust trading models.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively, taking ownership of building a new trading desk.
  • Proficiency with trading platforms, analytical tools, and data management software.
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and practices, including experience with various risk metrics and mitigation strategies.

Language skills: Fluent in English (written and verbal). Second European language (Bulgarian, German, French or Italian) will be considered an advantage.
